PM Modi Meets UK PM Rishi Sunak For First Time At G20 Summit

 On the fringes of the 17th G20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his colleague from the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, for the first time since taking office.


PM Modi's office tweeted, "Prime Ministers @narendramodi and @RishiSunak in talks during the first day of the @g20org Summit in Bali."

This is the first time the two leaders have spoken face to face. In a previous phone call in October, PM Modi and Sunak stressed the significance of swiftly concluding "a balanced and comprehensive" Free Trade Agreement between the two nations.

PM Modi met with US President Joe Biden, Dutch PM Mark Rutte, and President of the Republic of Senegal Macky Sall when he landed in Bali on Monday.

The G20 working session on food and energy security was addressed by PM Modi earlier today. He reaffirmed India's long-standing support for dialogue and diplomacy in Ukraine and remarked, "We have to find a way to return to the path of the ceasefire."


The PM stated, "I have said time and time again that we must find a way to return to the path of ceasefire and diplomacy in Ukraine.

"The Second Planet War wreaked havoc on the world during the last century. Following that, the authorities at that time made a concerted effort to follow the path of peace. It's now our turn. It is our responsibility to establish a new global order for the post-Covid era. To ensure international peace, harmony, and security, we urgently need to demonstrate our collective resolve in real ways, he continued.


Invoking India as the "holy country of Buddha and Gandhi," Prime Minister Modi expressed his confidence that the G20 members will all agree to send a clear message of peace to the globe at their meeting the following year.

In the opening of his speech, PM Modi praised Indonesia for its G-20 leadership in the face of difficult global conditions. The Covid pandemic, the developments in Ukraine, and the associated global issues, he continued, have all wreaked havoc on the world.

Supply chains around the world are in shambles. There is a global shortage of necessities and necessities goods. Every country's poor residents face a greater struggle. Already, just getting by was difficult for them. They lack the financial resources to handle the double whammy. They don't have the financial resources to deal with it because of the double whammy. We should also not be reluctant to admit that multilateral organizations like the UN have failed to address these concerns. And we have all failed to change them in a way that is appropriate. Because of this, the G-20 is held to higher standards by the world today, increasing the group's importance, according to PM Modi.

When discussing the difficulties encountered during the pandemic, the PM stated that India has secured the food security of its 1.3 billion residents. Food grains were also provided at the same time to numerous underdeveloped nations. In terms of food security, the current fertilizer scarcity is likewise a major concern.
